iPlan - a NSW Government initiative coordinated by
Department of Planning

Welcome to ProfileNENW

Collage of images for New England North West

ProfileNENW provides a summary of important demographic data to support the development of a Regional Strategy for the New England North West (NENW) region of New South Wales.

ProfileNENW was developed by the Department Planning as a snapshot of the New England North West region's economic, social and environmental status. It is an interactive, spatial planning tool with the potential to inform better planning decisions to a range of stakeholders including local government and state government, other agencies and the development industry. ProfileNENW has a strong emphasis on the spatial profile of the region.

ProfileNENW's demographic analysis uses statistics derived from the results of the 1986, 1991, 1996 and 2001 population censuses conducted and published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) External link . For each demographic indicator, a map of the region provides a quick overview of geographic variations (2001 Census). You can use the map to display and compare trends between each of the 19 local government areas in the region, the region as a whole, and the state of New South Wales.

Copyright for these statistics is held by the ABS.

The Department has prepared a Discussion Paper, Population Change in the New England North West Region. The Paper is designed to examine the dynamics of population change in the Region and stimulate discussion on initiatives to manage the change and promote regional development. It follows the release of projections prepared by the Department's Transport and Population Data Centre which are published in NSW SLA Population Projections 2001-2031, 2004 Release.
