1.3 Visitors

In addition to the resident population the Tweed Heads town centre enjoys patronage from residents from the surrounding residential and rural areas of northern NSW, South East Queensland, and from other domestic and overseas travellers. The town centre's major facilities receive approximately 9 million visits per year. However, due to the distance between the major nodes within the town centre and their internal orientation it is estimated that most visits to the area are single purpose trips and there is little flow on patronage to other nodes within the town centre.

The estimated number of visits per year to each of the major nodes are listed below (figures are rounded).

  • Tweed Mall Shopping Centre – 5.2 million visits per year
  • Twin Towns Services Club – 2.5 million visits per year
  • The Tweed Hospital – 600,000 visits per year
  • Tweed Heads Bowling Club – 600,000 visits per year

In addition, it is estimated that Griffith Street, Coolangatta enjoys an approximately 2 million plus visits per year. Therefore total visits to the area are well in excess of 11 million per year.
