Tweed Heads Masterplan

The Masterplan was launched by Minister Diane Beamer on Friday 27 August 2004. Click here for more information.

The State Government is helping to develop a Masterplan for Tweed Heads to re-establish the Tweed Heads Central Business District as the economic and cultural centre for the region. As a starting point a Taskforce was formed to review and direct investigations. The taskforce comprises a large number of State and Local Government bodies and local community organisation. The Tweed Heads Ministerial Taskforce commissioned an Economic Development Strategy for the Tweed Heads Town Centre in early 2003. The strategy that will guide the Masterplan to encourage and facilitate development through the town centre in line with the rates of development occuring along the majority of the coastal areas of the region. The overriding objective for Tweed Heads Town Centre Precinct is to create a vibrant town centre for people to work, live and play with a variety of commercial, retail, educational and cultural activities. The Masterplan intends to create opportunities to take advantage of the current regional facilities provided within the study area including the hospital, the Southern Cross University, the clubs and the retail facilities. The Masterplan will aim at creating a well connected pedestrian network which is aesthetically pleasing for easy access to and within the town centre.

The vision for Tweed Heads Town Centre Masterplan is based on the outcome of the community consultations undertaken by the taskforce and all the background studies commissioned by the Taskforce in support of the Masterplan.

The overriding objective of the Masterplan for Tweed Heads Town Centre Precinct is to create a vibrant town centre for people to work, live and play with a variety of sustainable commercial, retail, and cultural activities.
